Sting的独唱事业开始于The Police解散前的1982年，1985年，Sting出版了首张个人专辑《蓝海龟之梦》，相比之下，这张专辑的歌词显得比The Police时期的作品更富智慧。这张专辑中还有“爱他就给他自由”、“心的要塞”和“俄国人”等多首歌畅销一时。
